CYBILS: Children’s and Young Adult Bloggers’ Awards – Nominations open Oct. 1st!

| September 25, 2013 | 0 Comments

People often ask me what the top award for a book app might be … and I’ll admit to be being biased but my favorite hands down, is CYBILS.

Every year now, for the past three years, I’ve been involved with the fabulous people who founded and run the CYBILS Awards for children’s books – in print and digital. If you have a favorite book app to nominate, just visit the CYBILS website between Oct. 1-15th each year. One nomination per person is allowed.

If you need some suggestions, take a look at Digital-Storytime.com’s Top 25 for 2013.

Titles must be published between Oct. 16, 2012 and Oct. 15, 2013 to be eligible for the 2013 award. You can find the nomination form at www.cybils.com (Oct. 1-15 only). Developers can also nominate up to 10% of their collection during the secondary nomination period from Oct. 15-31st.

The CYBILS awards started in 2006 to:

  • Reward the children’s and young adult authors (and illustrators, let’s not forget them) whose books combine the highest literary merit and “kid appeal.” What’s that mean? If some la-di-dah awards can be compared to brussel sprouts, and other, more populist ones to gummy bears, we’re thinking more like organic chicken nuggets. We’re yummy and nutritious.

  • Foster a sense of community among bloggers who write about children’s and YA literature, highlight our best reviewers (and shamelessly promote their blogs) and provide a forum for the similarly obsessed.

In 2011 and 2012, I was a first round judge, which is a very fun but time-consuming process of evaluating every book app nominated and discussing them, to find the very best candidates for the second round of judging. The first round team of judges picks 5-7 books as finalists, to pass onto the second round judges. As one of the second round judges for 2013, I will get to help choose the final award recipient, which is announced on February 14, 2014. How sweet!

I’m joined by some very talented bloggers … please check out their wonderful bookish sites – twitter handles are also included with links:
