Top 10 Most Educational iPad Books

| May 2, 2011 | 2 Comments

In honor of Digital-Storytime’s recent makeover, this top ten list is a based on the books that scored high in a new category  - Educational. These are all top picks for iPad books that make learning especially fun. These apps are for a wide range of ages and topics, showing off the iPad’s flexibility. It can go from enrichment for babies to entertainment to reassurance for anxious adolescents. At the end I’ve also selected my top 5 “Alphabet” book apps.

My top picks for educational book apps:

1. The Adventure of the 7Wonderlicious Girls

2. The Strange & Wonderful World of Ants

3. Fox In Socks – Dr. Seuss (or any other digital Seuss reader)

4. Be Confident in Who You Are: A Middle School Confidential Graphic Novel

5. The Lucky Escape - Human Body Detectives

6. Milly, Molly and the Tree Hut (or any other title in the Milly, Molly series)

7. Penelope and the Purple Pirate

8. Loris and the Runaway Ball

9. Wheels on the Bus HD

10. Peepers: A Zany Peep at Opposites

And a Special Bonus: There are a lot of ABC learning apps out there that cross-over into a genre I often call “digital board books”. The goal of these apps is to engage children with early literacy activities in an engaging way.  Some are more like books, others game-like and some feel more like flash cards or early readers. However you classify them, though, all five of these are quite good.

Our Top 5 Alphabet Books:

1. Bob Books #1 – Reading Magic for iPad

2. AlphaBooks for iPad

3. FirstWords: Animals (or any of the many FirstWords apps)

4. The Lettermen go to School (or any of the many Lettermen apps)

5. AlphaBELCH – A Children’s Book About Burps

Great list! Did you know AlphaBelch was made by one of the creative forces behind the show Barney”? Stephen was there for I believe 16 years and that ability to just get to kids shines through in that book. Thanks for some great new ideas for my son and nieces =D
